Gramodaya Samajik Sansthan has been working on the Conservation of The Great Indian Bustard (Godawan) since FY 22. The project is supported by United Spirits Limited (Diageo India). We have adopted a multi stakeholder approach working in consultation with Forest Department, Wildlife Institute and Local Village community. Local community especially the Bishnoi leaders have appreciated our conservation efforts and partnered with us by donating village pastureland for various conservation projects. Our initiatives are guided by Jaisalmer Forest Department on geographies and villages where the bird movement takes place.
We are undertaking initiatives like native grassland development for safe habitat, developing & reviving water bodies and working on raising awareness in larger community. To make these enclosures predator free, we are working on doing fencing to ensure the habitats are safe and secure.
GSS and Diageo India will continue to work in collaboration with Government, local NGOs, village panchayats and other conservation individuals to provide safe habitat for Godawan.
